For the Boat Buyer

Our Commitment to You

Whether you are in the market to buy or sell a boat, you can count on Puget Sound Yachts for the professionalism, courtesy and experience you would expect from a yacht broker committed to his craft.

We are not a new boat dealer looking to enhance our bottom line with the occasional sale of a used boat. Nor do we carry the burden or the obligation to a particular manufacturer’s name brand or style. We focus on pre-owned off-shore capable yachts, cruisers for the Sound, and sport yachts.

We are dedicated to helping our clients make the right choices in all aspects of boating to match their particular lifestyles. We have the tools and the expertise to assist you from start to finish, and to make sure you are getting the right boat at the right price.

Buyer's Agent

When Puget Sound Yachts represents you as a Buyer’s Agent, there is no expense to you. Our services are deducted from the commission paid to the seller’s listing agent. This is important because our fee can never be a point of contention. You will have a professional working on your side that is not emotionally involved with the purchase, and at no cost to you.

Vessel transactions usually involve many considerations, requiring both contractual and logistical elements to close a deal. We take care of the scheduling and co-ordination of the haulout facilities with your surveyor, work with your surveyor and your lender to get your financing approved, lend assistance in obtaining the neccesary insurance documents and provide for clear chain of title, completing all the neccesary USCG documentation.

With transactions typically ranging from $50,000 to $500,000 or higher, to avoid the potential for considerable exposure for yourself it is just good common sense to use an experienced professional; a licensed and bonded Puget Sound Yacht broker, whose responsibility is to protect the interests of all parties in the transaction in an ethical fashion.

Since our fees are paid by the seller, there is no upside cost to you. But since there is large downside risk, it would be foolish to consider a deal in yacht brokerage without the professional assistance of your experienced, licensed and bonded Puget Sound Yacht broker.

How We Benefit You:

1. Our brokers have resources available to them that most buyers do not. In particular, our access to several sophisticated and reliable multiple listing services can save enormous time in narrowing the field of yachts that meet your requirements. Our network of brokers provides the connections necessary to find those boats that are not yet on the market, or ones that are not yet being actively marketed by their owners.

Benefit: You, the buyer, have a qualified list of yachts to choose from and more time on your hands to look them over.

2. A broker can assist in the selection process by helping you clearly define your yachting requirements and by providing objective information needed to evaluate each vessel. Sometimes it is necessary to have that more objective point of view.

Benefit: You the buyer, have a better understanding of what you want and need and a list of pros and cons to help with that final decision.

3. Puget Sound Yachts will help in the negotiation phase of the project. There are myriads of negotiating factors, including but not limited to: price, financing, terms, date of possession and often the inclusion or exclusion of repairs and furnishings or equipment. There may be give and take associated with every step and often it is good to have an objective, experienced broker to help sort it all out, to prepare a purchase agreement and to manage the escrow.

Benefit: A smooth closing.

4. Your broker can provide local information on different vessel services, such as engine repair, dockage, and inspection services.

Benefit: Quality and affordable services.

Recommending the extent of the survey to be used in the inspection and helping to identify the most qualified individuals to conduct the surveys are two key functions of a knowledgeable and experienced broker during this phase.

Benefit: A clearly defined survey report to ensure that you get what is paid for.

6. We will assist you in the due diligence process, making sure that the title to the vessel is clear. Title indicates ownership of the vessel and can be mired in a confusing status of past owners or rights of access. If the vessel is a foreign flagged vessel, set up as a corporation, or existing under any number of other special circumstances, the services of a professional yacht broker will become even more valuable.

Benefit: A smooth closing and clear sailing for the buyer.

7. A Puget Sound Yachts broker can help you understand different financing options and aid in determination of actual buying power. Given some basic information about available savings, income and current debt, the broker can refer the buyer to the lenders best qualified to provide the necessary service.

Benefit: Long term financial stability for the buyer.

8. A Puget Sound Yachts broker will guide you through the closing process and make sure everything flows together smoothly.

Benefit: A happy buyer.
