Introductory Comments

Micjay is one of the finest examples of a fast, high quality, custom cruising yacht. Micjay is in immaculate condition and offers the total package with a very attractive 3 stateroom interior, superb performance and the equipment to sail anywhere. The twin cockpit deck arrangement is a pleasure to sail shorthanded and can accommodate a large number of friends or family.

Additional criteria incorporated into the design was a draft of not more than 7' 2", classic exterior and interior styling, and the ability to sail with two. Micjay's bulb keel was chosen to keep weight low and minimize drag and draft. A carbon fiber mast was selected to enhance stability with reduced weight above the deck.

The high quality of the design and construction was the result of the collaboration of an experienced owner working with a talented, proven naval architect, innovative established interior designer, and an established and experienced quality builder. Alan Andrews' designs are well known for their seakindly performance and state-of-the-art engineering. In light and moderate conditions Micjay effortlessly sails at speeds close to the true wind speed. It is a great pleasure to accelerate to 6 knots in only 7 knots of wind and reach 8 knots in 9 or 10 knots of wind. Alan enjoyed working with the knowledgeable owners who knew what design features they desired. In his designer comments (available on request) he said Micjay's owners who "described their ideal situation (yacht) as a vacation home with three bedrooms, each with its own bath, a kitchen and large den. In addition to the interior, the yacht was expected to have the ability to power at 10 knots and also sail at ten knots on a reach in 12-15 knots of wind."

After an extensive search into possible builders the Wiggers yacht yard was chosen to built Micjay. Andy Wiggers had the experience to produce a light, strong cruising yacht with quality finish and had the skilled joiners to build a high quality interior. Prior sailing yachts built by Wiggers include many successful racing and cruising yachts.

Accommodations

The focal point of  Micjay's interior is the very comfortable spacious, open main salon with adjacent galley and navigation center. The private owner's master cabin with ensuite head with tub/shower is equally roomy. Aft are two comfortable guest cabins with double berth and ensuite heads. Skylight positioning further enhance the light brought in from multiple deck hatches, fixed and opening port lights.

The owner specified an informal contemporary wood cozy interior. The teak cabinetry is flush faced with European style concealed hinges. A 'tunnel door' theme (incorporated in the famous yachts Whitefin and Signe) offers a surrounding laminated door frame with integral carved hand holds. The cabin sole is teak with a contrasting light inlay and is fully removable. The open bright galley is next to the companionway and has a huge surface area (36.75 sq. ft. of counter space) and is detailed to integrate with the mood of the adjacent main salon. There is a large appliance garage, pull out bins for pots and pans, and spices, even special compartments for trays and cookie sheets. The standup navigation table has a wide hinged top and built-in flush mounted electronics and electrical panel.

Starting forward is a forepeak cabin that can also be used for additional sleeping accommodations accessed from the forward deck hatch. This area has removable berth panels about 36" above the deepest section and cushions that convert the area to a double berth. The aft bulkhead of this area is watertight. On the backside of this bulkhead is a wide owner's head with a tub/shower combination. There are multiple storage bins and lockers. The wide sink counter has a very attractive 6" laminated face fill. The counter tops are Avonite, the sink is porcelain and the head is an electric Vacu-flush.

Next aft is a full-width master suite with queen Pullman berth and full length settee flanked by end tables. There are three tall cabinets above the settee, two hanging lockers, night stand and drawer storage.

The main salon has a long L-shaped settee to port and two very comfortable leather upholstered chairs to starboard. There is an innovative triangular coffee table that rises and converts to a dining table to port and teak gaming table with inlaid chess board and two drawers is between the two chairs. Above and outboard of the two chairs is an entertainment center for the TV, stereo with surround sound, VHS and 50 CD carousel and a mirrored crystal cabinet. Below are five more lockers and drawers. Outboard and above the L-shaped settee are additional bookshelves and storage lockers.

The U-shaped galley located aft of the salon to starboard has additional counter space under the mid cockpit. The counters have high fiddles and there are two oval deep stainless sinks. Opposite the galley is the standup navigation center. Aft of the navigation center is a passageway to the guest cabins. In this passageway is the wet locker cabinet.

Through the passageway there is an entry door to the starboard guest cabin and ensuite head. This cabin has a cedar lined hanging locker and bureau. There is also a wide shelf adjacent to the queen berth and multiple opening ports and skylights. There is a similar arrangement in the port guest cabin, also with queen berth and ensuite head. This head has a second door providing an entry for dayhead use from the passageway. Both guest cabins have doors to a shared stall shower.
