Accomodation

This custom layout begins with over/under V-berths forward, and lots of built in storage. The athwartships head compartment is next aft with the marine toilet to starboard and sink with vanity to port. Doors provide privacy for the forward stateroom and the head compartment and the shower is centerline with a curtain. The main saloon has a straight settee/berth to starboard with a pilot berth outboard. Another straight settee is to port. A locker is just forward of this settee and the Luke fireplace is built in above the locker and surrounded with tile. A U-shaped dinette is found to port, at the base of the companionway, and the galley is opposite. A walk thru aft of the galley contains the chart table and leads aft to the master stateroom. This stateroom has port and starboard berths with an insert to form a very large double berth. This area, too, has lots of built in storage in the way of lockers, drawers and shelves. A sink and vanity are open to the stateroom and the marine toilet and shower are tucked behind a privacy door to port. The entire sole is teak and holly and there is wood overlay everywhere: on all the bulkheads, overheads, deck & cockpit.

Remarks

Chesapeake is a very special Westsail 42. She is one of the few cutter rigged yawls ever made; a brilliant, well conceived rig that offers all of the advantages of a cutter and the ability to carry extra sail off the wind.
The interior layout is a factory finished custom layout created for her original owner, Walter Cronkite, which includes over/under berths in the forepeak in lieu of the standard workspace. This layout will be great for a family with younger kids. The current owner has used the boat for daysail charters and cruises along the eastern seaboard and to the islands. "Chesapeake" is well equipped for the Bahamas or Caribbean.
