A good-looking boat, the Wellcraft 290 Coastal is an outboard-powered fisherman with a cruising-style interior and a large, well-equipped cockpit. Dual-purpose boats like this have long been popular with active families who like to mix fishing and cruising and, with her wide beam and generous cockpit, the Coastal provides an excellent platform for both activities. Built on a solid fiberglass deep-V hull, the mid-cabin interior of the 290 is arranged with a dinette/V-berth forward, a compact galley and head, and mid-cabin lounge that converts into a double berth. Note that the V-berth back-rests swing up to form two pilot berths. Outside, the elevated bridge deck is fitted with a baitwell (with a Lucite window) and tackle storage as well as a doublewide helm seat and companion seat to port. In the cockpit, a pair of insulated fishboxes are located just forward of the transom. Additional features include cockpit bolsters, transom door, wide side-decks, bow pulpit, and a large in-deck storage box.
