Vessel Walkthrough Most forward is a chain locker followed by a forepeak storage area that houses the bow thruster, washdown system and through hulls with sail and line storage above. Next aft is the forward head with marble counter tops, shower with grating, Groco head and from this area there access to identical mirror image port and starboard bunk bed cabins with a removable dividing bulkead that allows these cabins to be opened up in to one large cabin and either or both lower berths can be converted into a large double berth with or without the dividing bulkheads in place and then the upper berths can be folded down so that with the divider out you can have a double berth to one side and a couch settee opposite to make a very large and comfortable cabin. You could also set it up with one or both cabins with doubles or bunks so she can sleep up to six in these forward cabins. Next aft is the spacious main saloon and the doors to the forward cabins and part of the main bulkead can be removed to open this entire area up so that with the upper bunks folded down you could make a main saloon that is nearly 20' long and could seat up to about 16 people comfortably for large get togethers and you would then have a spacious comfortable single sleeping cabin boat! Either one of the side cabins could be left closed up too so you could have a den type area forward on either side along with a sleeping cabin opposite. This is an amazingly flexible layout with lots of possibilities!
In the main saloon you have a very large dinette area to starboard with a table that can seat eight and there is a smaller "coffee table" type table that can be inserted in it's place and the big table can then be stored in the workshop. Opposite are two very comfortable built in arm chairs with storage below. There are four special backlighted leaded glass doored lockers in the corners of the main cabin, bookshelves, a pantry are adn eight ports and three hatches in the main salon for great ventilation. The galley is next aft to port and is described below.
Opposite to starboard is the entry to a well laid out workshop area that also houses a deep freezer unit and has access to the engine. In the walk through to port is a navigators cabin with a lage chart table, book storage and swing out navagation seat and drawers, lockers and three opening ports.
Next aft is the very large and confortable master cabin with an athrwartwship Queen berth and small couch and many storage locker and bins and drawers. There is second head aft and to starboard with a seperate shower and tub area and marble counter tops and vanity mirror.
The entire boat is finly fnished in teak staving a sold teak furnature all finished in a satin varnish hand rubbed look. The interior of this vessel is very inviting and quite luxurious.
Description Kai Kanani is Hawaiian for "The Beautiful One of the Sea". The last of just a handful of these very special schooners built to the highest standards by Blue Water Yachts in Taiwan, she was delivered new in 1987 and had very light usage in the Northeast US, hauled each winter with her masts and rigging stored and was launched only for a few weeks of sailing each year. As of spring of 2006 she had only 504 engine hours!
In 2007 she underwent a refit and was sailed to the Caribbean. She has had a number of siginificant upgrades and updates including a brand new 135HP Perkins diesel, new sails and new solar panels and liferaft, RIB dingy and davits, watermaker, etc...
She has twin electric windlasses, electric in-mast furling, electric assist roller furling staysails and jib, bow thruster, three zone A/C, 12V freezer and seperate 12V fridge and a massive 390 watt solar and high output wind power generation system so that she can be at anchor "off the grid" for weeks at a time with no need to run the engine. With her enormous fuel capacity and new fuel efficient engine she has a range under power of approx. 1500 miles.
If you desire a top quality beautiful schooner rigged yacht that can be easily handled by a crew of two, then you will appreciate the wisdom and thought that went into conceiving and creating Kai Kanani!
