Performance Overview
This unique custom yacht was completely redone and featured in the August 2000 edition of Power & Motor Yacht as the prototype for a new line of Tempest High Performance Offshore Cruisers.
The hull is unusually deep - 21 degrees at the transom, which helps to make her seaworthy and steady in deteriorated conditions.
She is built with an eye toward strength: A solid FRP Hull with Kevlar and Vinylester Resin, a Klegecell-Cored Deck & Hardtop, Balsa-Cored Stringers ahead of the Engine Room, Plywood-Cored Engine Beds and 6061 Aluminum Engine Frames...and Plywood-Cored Frames on 3-Foot Centers.
The original T-Torque Drives have been replaced with Arneson Drives and Rolla Props combining the advantages of surface-piercing drives with the durability of straight inboards. Everything exposed is stainless steel being impervious to corrosion.
During the current bottom and running gear cleaning and painting process, the stainless steel was hand and machine burnished to a brightness that should have been seen.
She has been bottom and running gear painted with premium paint to protect her for years to come.
Accommodations and Layout
The cockpit is roomy with a sunpad and is partially covered by the pilothouse overhang. The swim platform, accessed by steps on either side of the sunpad, is integrated with the hull, and opens to reveal a water-toy garage.
The bridge deck is an enclosed, air-conditioned pilothouse that gives the yacht its futuristic look and provides 6'5" headroom. The helm is dominated by two Cat Vision monitors and a 13-inch flat-screen monitor that can display anything from closed-circuit TV input to the KVH satellite TV input to GPS chart data. The entire pilothouse is enclosed in glass, providing 360-degree visibility. There are two seats forward, either of which can function as the helm seat.
Below and to port are the galley and eating bar. A large guest berth with queen-size bed and en suite head with stall shower occupies the forepeak. The salon is roomy and comfortable with a large settee running along the starboard side. The master stateroom lying aft of the salon, under the bridge deck, has a large head, elegant vanity and full-size tub and shower.
Other Features
15-kW Westerbeke genset; Marine Air reverse-cycle A/C; Vetus bow thruster; Furuno radar; Northstar GPS/plotter; ComNav autopilot; Icom VHF; VDO compass; TV and helm monitor
Broker's Comments
Miss Avenntura is a head-turner wherever she goes and is a dream to drive. Her exterior, engines and belowdecks are in good condition and bottom painting and teak refinishing are in progress. The electronics and helm console need repair and the interior should be redone which a new owner of this caliber yacht would likely do to personalize her anyway. Considering her original base price of $1.5 million re-doing her would be a relatively modest investment for an elegant high performance outcome.
