Accommodation The Eagle 66 is a fast cruising sloop of exceptional quality and finish combined with modern technology. She has accommodations for up to six owners and guests.
Master Stateroom The master stateroom is aft with an island queen sized berth, a bench settee to starboard, hanging lockers and drawer storage to port, and with an ensuite head and shower compartment. This cabin has a 20" Philips LCD television.
Guest Stateroom Aft A short corridor leads forward on the starboard side from the master stateroom past the engine room, which is beneath the guest cockpit. Upper and lower single pilot berths are outboard. Further forward on the corridor is the navigation station in the aft starboard corner of the main saloon.
Main Saloon The main saloon is slightly raised, allowing panoramic views through the coachhouse windows forward and on both sides. When seated at the dining area to port, or at the L-shaped settee to starboard, the three large hull port windows on both sides are perfectly positioned to see the harbor.
Galley Down two steps forward of the main saloon, the full beam galley is open to the saloon, allowing the cook to remain part of the party. Countertops are black Corian, and the sink is stainless.
Crew Quarters Forward of the galley to starboard is the day head and shower compartment, and a crew cabin with upper and lower single berths.
VIP Stateroom To port is the principle guest stateroom with a queen sized berth outboard, hanging locker and drawer storage, and with an ensuite head and shower compartment.
Forward of a watertight bulkhead, with access from a large deck hatch, and via a door from the crew cabin, is a very large sail and rope locker. Further commodious storage is provided aft in an enormous lazarette.
The interior of the yacht is beautifully executed in Angre, teak and oak cabinetry, a teak cabin sole throughout, dark blue leather upholstery and Alcantara deckhead panels. The yacht is very bright and airy with seven coach house windows, fifteen hull ports, nine deck hatches, and nine coach house portholes. Augmenting the natural light are many recessed lights through the accommodations.
Electronics and Navigation Equipment The Raymarine ST290 System is duplicated at both helm stations, with full sailing/wind instruments, 48 mile radar, C-Map GPS/plotter displays, autopilot, etc. All are repeated from the navigation station, which also has an Icom SSB radio, Raymarine VHF radio, Thrane and Thrane Mini M satcom, and Philips 17" LCD display with Nav 1000 single board computer and Endeavour V.5 navigation software. There is also a Garmin backup GPS/plotter.
Each cabin has a stereo, DVD/VCR, and surround sound installed, and a Philips 32" plasma screen television is mounted in the main saloon.
Electrical 240 volts AC is provided by shore power, an Onan MDKAE 17 kw genset, and by a Mastervolt 5 kw inverter/charger.
24 volts DC is provided by the main engine alternator, the Mastervolt battery charger, and gel cell battery banks.
Deck & Hull The Eagle 66 is almost flush decked forward of the mast, with a raised house over the saloon, followed aft by a generous guest cockpit with varnished table. The sailing cockpit is all the way aft with twin helm consoles with custom carbon fiber wheels and all sailing controls. The traditional reverse transom has a hydraulically powered opening door to provide a swim platform.
Cockpit seats and the side and foredecks are sheathed in seasoned teak in the traditional way. Superstructure is white, topsides are dark blue, and the toe rail is painted in metallic silver. Hatches are by Lewmar, screens by Ocean Air, and ports by Gebo.
Hull and deck construction is a wet laminate of carbon fiber and E glass in epoxy with core cell to SP specs. Internal structure (stringers, frames, floors, etc.) is in pre-preg carbon fiber with core cell to SP specs.
The Eagle 66 has a destroyer bow, shallow hull sections, high aspect ratio fin keel with lead antimony bulb, and a skegless foil rudder in carbon on a carbon stock.
Liferaft is a ten person by RFD.
Mechanical Equipment & Engine The engine room is beneath the center guest cockpit, and extends to port forward of the master head and shower compartment. All equipment is properly arranged to allow easy access for all service routines.
The yacht is powered by a Yanmar 170hp marine diesel with reversing gearbox and an Austral four blade folding propeller. STORM 2 motors at approximately 7.5 knots at 2000 rpm, 8 knots at 2200rpm, 9 knots at 2500 rpm, and 10 knots at 2900 rpm.
Fuel capacity is 1500 litres in six tanks, three on each side with fuel transferable in any configuration. Tank 2 is set up as the day tank, and all fuel transferred to it is filtered and de-bugged.
Air conditioning: Cruisair with five air handlers with individual controls. Watermaker: Spectra Monterey 1000 240 volt 153 lph (40 gph). Bow thruster: Maxpower 24 volt vertical retracting. Windlass: Maxwell RC 2500 24 volt electric. Heads: Sealand fresh water Vacuflush
Sails and Rigging The Eagle 66, with a sail area of 213 square meters (2,296 square feet), has been configured to be powerful, responsive and fast on all points of sail, while being easy to manage with a small crew. In 15 to 20 knots, it is not unusual to beat at 8.8 to 9.2 knots. On spinnaker runs, she has clocked 13 knots, and up to 14.5!
Mast, boom and spinnaker pole are in carbon fiber built by Carbon Tech. Spreaders are swept back a few degrees to obviate the need for running backstays. The fully battened mainsail is furled in the custom Carbon Tech hydraulically powered boom, and the non-overlapping roller furled jib is sheeted to a deck track. Standing rigging is discontinuous rod by Carbon Tech.
Working sails can be set without leaving the sailing cockpit by pushing a few buttons. And tacking is merely a matter of turning the wheel.
For "off the wind" sailing, a gennaker sets from the stem plate or spinnaker pole, and is easily doused with a snuffer and sock.
All sails are North Sails 3DL. Main and jib in Gatorback Spectra, and the masthead gennaker is in Maxicote 130 nylon. The five electric winches, five manual winches, and deck gear are by Harken, and the hydraulics for the backstay and boom vang are by Fleet-Hydrol.
