Accommodations Full teak interior beautifully finished with satin varnish and gloss finished teak and holly sole which accommodates up to six in a 2 stateroom layout (helm deck dining settee makes down to sleep two in a pinch). Plenty of natural light and ventilation with 4 opening stainless steel ports with screens and a large hatch also with screens. There is abundant artificial light with reading lamps at each berth and several overhead dome style lamps. A 16,000 BTU reverse cyle air conditioning unit (heats as well) provides ample cooling and heating but if you don't want the genset on heating can be accomplished using the Webasto diesel furnace. Both units have outlets in all cabins and on the helm deck. Starting forward in the private forward cabin is a V berth with filler, above which the hull is lined with teak ceilings and below which there is bin type storage. Aft of the starboard V is a hanging locker. Next aft is the main cabin which includes the galley featuring generous storage and Corian counter space, polished stainless steel sink with H&C pressure water, Force 10 3 burner propane stove with oven, dual voltage refrigeration box with freezer compartment, and microwave oven. Opposite the galley is the head with separate stall shower compartment with seat. The vanity outboard has ample storage, stainless steel sink with H&C pressure water and Corian counter top. The Vacuflush head is plumbed directly to the holding tank. Aft of the galley/main cabin area is the private aft cabin. The aft cabin features a thwartship running true queen berth with some storage under complemented by a generous hanging locker to port. Up three steps to the wonderfully open and airy helm deck. To starboard is the helm station with bench style helm seat below which is a voluminous storage compartment and the yachts electrical distribution panel. In addition to the natural light and ventilation provided by the windows, a hydraulically operated sunroof is fitted in the hard top. Aft of the helm station is a bureau which houses the ice maker and a wet bar outboard. Opposite to port is the dining settee featuring thwartship running bench seats and varnished teak table that can be made down into a berth. Continuing aft is the expansive cockpit. There is a full width transom seat with storage under. The upper level of the storage is in bins which may be removed to access additional storage under. Additional storage under the side decks is accessed throught teak doors P&S. Port and Starboard at the forward end of the cockpit are well insulated engine boxes with cushions atop; a great place for additional seating or lounging. The helm deck and cockpit soles are finished in traditional laid teak decks that are glued (not screwed down) to the full structural fiberglass deck below (teak decks are an option that some ofthe sisterships do not have). There is virtually no wear on the teak decking. The San Juan 38 was designed with an eye towards both grace and functionality. The yacht, even at rest, gives the sense of speed while her open layout provides wonderful areas for entertaining and relaxing.

Hull 40'-7" LOA, 38' Lenght on deck Hull was Awlgripped black in '03 with a double white black white boot top and gold cove stripe. Bottom is finished with Micron CSC Extra ablative red bottom paint and has been sanded each season to avoid paint build up and keep the bottom fair. Construction, The San Juan 38 hull is formed using Kevlar and E-glass with core cell foam. A hybrid epoxy & vinylester resin is used to greatly increase the strength and the resin is infused into the laminate. The core material is removed and solid glass "windows" are built in at all thru hull penetrations. Four composite water tight bulkheads built into the hull as well. The deck & house are a one piece infused composite using E-glass, Corecell and vinylester resin. The entire yacht is finished with Sterling 2 part linear polyurethane coatings to aircraft specifications. Exterior teak is finished with 12 coats of Sterling polyurethane spar varnish and had been maintained as new. From the cockpit wide side decks lead forward. To keep the line of the yacht as graceful side rails have been avoided but hand holds are carefully placed and transiting forward and aft is done with ease. Varnished teak toe rails, cockpit coamings and other accents provide a nice balance of beauty while not becoming burdensome maintainence wise.
