-- DESCRIPTION --
The Moody 34 is yet another offering from the drawing board of Bill Dixon. A popular offering in Europe, few are found on this side of the pond and they are consequently highly sought after. A go-anywhere vessel, she has a Lloyd's Hull Construction Certificate, with the strength and robust design to lend confidence offshore. She has a faily long fin keel with a partial skeg hung rudder and a good ballast ratio, ensuring good directional stability and making her easy to drive in all sorts of conditions. She sails well to weather and loves a good beam reach.

The topsides are designed with ease of maintenance in mind- only the forward grab rails are teak. The stanchion posts are mounted on top of the toe rail, helping to prevent moisture intrusion into the deck. The high center cockpit, suitable for six, has high coamings for protection and good back support. The back deck is a great place for sunning and lounging.

Inside, she's one tidy little ship. The center cockpit, three cabin layout makes her quite suited for two couples or more. Lee clothes on both the dinette and settee provide sea berths, though the aft cabin will provide a comfortable spot while at sea as well. Handholds abound, engine access is great and the impression you get when you step into her is of security and comfort. There are lots of little details that differentiate the quality yachts from the rest of them- like headliner that is all removable for access to the wiring and deck hardware. All of the storage lockers have carpeted hull sides so your belongings don't get condensation on them and turn moldy. Round sinks for round plates and pots- how many rectangular frying pans do you own? Little stuff- but it all adds up to make a big difference.

Starfire is hulll #166 of a reported 165 hulls built, so she is most likely the last in her model line. She has been with her present owners since 1988. She was with them in the Caribbean for four years and due to their overseas assignments with the U.S. Foreign Service has spent ten of the twenty years they have had her on the hard, though not recently. Now they are retiring from the Foreign Service and going back to the Caribbean, but to another home on land. It's with more than just a small amount of sadness that they are parting with her, as she has been a part of their family for so long. She's a good boat, has been cared for diligently and will serve her next owners for many years to come as well. Do come take a look at her and see for yourself.

Accommodations
Forward cabin:

Starting in the forepeak, there is access to the chain locker. Moving the weight even lower in the boat, there is an additional anchor rode drop to below the V berth, accessed by a panel beneath the forward part of the berth. Cubby lockers line both sides of the hull above the berth, while beneath it on both sides are suspended fabric bins for clothes, removable for access below them yet keeping clothing and other items stowed away from moisture. On the starboard side there is a hanging locker, while on port there is a nightstand with a vanity above and a mirror on the aft bulkhead above the nightstand. Teak battens line the hull sides and the cabin sole is carpeted. Lighting and ventilation is provided by two reading lights and an overhead hatch with a solar vent.

Saloon:
Continuing aft, the saloon features a straight settee on port, a C-shaped settee to starboard and a teak drop-leaf table with bottle stowage located on centerline. Underneath both are water tanks as well as storage, with additional storage behind the settees. Above the port settee there is a drop down door liquor cabinet as well as shelf and cubby storage. The starboard side has a storage cabinet and cubby shelving storage.

The aft end of the port settee serves as seating for the nav station. The chart table is of ample size for charts and there is drawer storage beneath the table and shelf storage outboard along the hull. The electrical panel is conveniently located for access while seated.

Aft of the nav area is the head. The molded fiberglass sink and use of laminates in this compartment makes for easy wipe down maintenance. There is a manual head, pull out shower mixer teak shower grate and sump and storage behind the head and sink as well as below the sink. Ventilation and lighting is from a 12 volt light, a fixed light and a ceiling vent.

The galley is across from the head and continues down the companionway toward the aft cabin. L shaped, there is an extremely generous amount of counter space- unusual for a 34' boat. Double round sinks are located towards centerline and there is a tip-out trash bin beneath the end sink. Continuing around the corner and down the corridor, there is the stove and then ice box. There is storage below the sink, stove and ice box as well as along the hullsides behind the countertop and dry storage beneath it. At the end of the countertop moving aft, there are two hanging lockers- one wet and one dry- before the entrance to the master cabin aft. Access is also gained to the engine in this corridor.

Moving aft into the master cabin, you find the large double berth on the port side, with a padded headboard, nightstand and mirror. Along the aft end and the starboard side, there is an L-shaped settee wich is great for dressing or lounging; additional storage is available behind the cushins as well as beneath them. There is a double door hanging locker on the forward end of the settee by the cabin entrance with a shelf above it. An open shelf runs the perimeter of the cabin and there are cubby bins across the aft end of the cabin for clothes or odds and ends. Teak battens accent the coachroof sides. This cabin is quite bright and cheery feeling, with fixed lights down both sides, two 12v. lights overhead and a large hatch w/vent above.

Hull and Deck
The hull below the waterline was peeled in 1994, they let her sit for two years to make sure the hull had dried out completely and then they had the bottom vinylestered in 1996. Like everything else on her, they've taken the time to do things right. Wire lifelines so they don't corrode. Deck stanchions mounted on the toe rails, so there's less possibility of moisture intrusion into the deck core. Very little exterior wood to deal with, so you can spend your time where you want to- sailing!
