Introductory Comments

Gazaway is a well equipped Mason 54 with an excellent layout for bluewater cruising. She has an extensive electronics package, 8Kw generator, reverse cycle air conditioning, and offshore holding plate refrigeration system.  Gazaway can be easily sailed shorthanded, utilizing the furling boom mainsail system and electric halyard winch in the cockpit. Like her sisterships, she has the benefit of the modified full keel with skeg hung rudder and a beautiful exterior profile. The Mason 54 is designed by the legendary Al Mason, and considered one of his most successful designs. She performs very well and offers an exceptional level of comfort below and on deck. The exquisite 3 stateroom interior is varnished teak and white ash, finished to the highest standard.

Interior Accommodations

The interior is finished in exquisite teak joiner work that has a beautiful hand rubbed satin finish.  Each stateroom's interior wood is a beautiful combination of white ash and teak.  Lockers are teak lined.  There are overhead hatches, deck prisms, cabin fans and air conditioning outlets.  New curtains on custom tracks were added throughout the interior in 2006.  All the bright work is in excellent condition, honey varnished teak throughout, accented with teak hull ceiling on exposed areas.  The cabinets are teak lined with camphor wood veneer in all hanging lockers. The interior cushions are 5" foam with custom fabric and custom mattresses in the master cabin.  The cabin sole is teak and holly, completely revarnished in July of 2007 with added insulation over the engine areas in the salon.

Beginning forward is a large anchor locker with double louvered doors.  The forepeak has a large U-shaped area with teak sail bins, storage lockers and workbench.
Continuing aft is a large centerline guest head with separate stall shower with door to forepeak storage area and head. Overhead is a large Plexiglas and teak sliding hatch with stainless steel ladder allowing access to the foredeck and sail transfer.  Full width guest head is aft of the shower stall with private entrances to each guest stateroom to port and starboard aft.  There is a tall linen locker, sink vanity with locker above.

Next aft are port and starboard guest staterooms with upper and lower single berths.  The starboard cabin has a wide single upper berth that folds out to increase sleeping width and full single lower. There is a full berth length shelf outboard of the upper berth, a book shelf above the lower berth, lockers both above and below each berth at the forward end with a group of five drawers under the lower berth and a full height locker with automatic light when opened. Opposite is a built in vanity with two drawers and a mirror.  This cabin also offers a private entry door to the forward head. The port guest stateroom is slightly offset allowing guests larger upper and lower berths.  Storage includes a full, berth-length shelf outboard of the upper berth, a book shelf and two lockers outboard of the lower berth and a set of six drawers under the lower berth.  There is a cabinet at the aft end of the cabin and a vanity with drawers and a mirror on the inboard bulkhead.  This cabin also has a private entry to the forward head.

Next aft is a spacious full width main salon with large L shaped dinette to port with an adjustable height drop leaf table with fiddles and another large "L" shaped settee is to starboard.  There is an abundance of storage space in finely crafted teak, louvered lockers outboard to port and starboard.  Full entertainment center built-in outboard of the starboard settee that includes the stereo, flat panel TV and DVD. A bar cabinet with utensil drawer, ice storage, bottle storage and wine rack is centerline forward of the galley.

The galley is the full width of the vessel divided both port and starboard with generous counter space on both sides and open to the main salon. To starboard, close to centerline is a double high polished stainless steel sink with two inserts for additional counter space stored below. To the right is a very large pot and pan compartment accessed both from the counter top and through the salon starboard side settee.  The gimbaled stove with oven faces inboard with exhaust fan above and abundant counter level and overhead locker storage.  To port there is a very large holding plate freezer compartment with double top opening lid; adjacent facing aft is the refrigeration compartment also with a double top opening lid and hinged front opening access.  The microwave oven is in the above center locker with additional storage in cabinets on either side.  Below the counter is the teak and stainless steel trash bin.  The additional features are two deck prisms; flip up counter on the inboard side of the starboard counter and a spice rack aft of the galley in the companionway.

The navigation station is further aft at the base of the companionway to port with a large sit-down table facing forward with a well-designed layout for the built-in electronics.  Signal flag storage and chart storage compartments are built into the aft bulkhead in this area.  Additional storage is located under and behind the nav. seat, below the desk and along the companionway an inboard drawer.

The master stateroom is aft to starboard with a large double berth with custom mattress, ensuite head with separate shower stall and Plexiglas door.  A large hanging locker, chest of drawers and overhead outboard lockers provide extensive storage space.  Overhead hatches and opening ports in the stateroom shower and head provide excellent ventilation and natural light.  Above the berth are two double door shelf lockers and a book shelf. Storage under the berth. Raised panel entry door with lower louvers and double mirror on back of door.  Bureau with four drawers and mirror above.  Deep inboard locker.

The cockpit is spacious with folding teak table, two huge lazarettes, three shallow lazarettes, pedestal-mounted auto-pilot and GPS with chart plotter units in pods with repeating sailing instruments and separate VHF built-in to the cockpit coaming conveniently located at the helm.  Stainless steel binnacle-mounted C-Plath compass.
