AVEDONIA is the ex NOAA ship PIERCE. Commissioned May 6, 1963 at a reported cost of $33,000,000, she was built alongside her sistership WHITING and was active as a hydrographic survey ship for NOAA until 1991. Renamed ELIZABETH M. FISHER and repositioned in New York Harbor next to the INTREPID, she was part of the Air and Sea Museum until 2000.
With 50,000 US gallons of fuel and EMD 800 shp main engines, she has a range of 5,700 nautical miles at 11.5 knots and is capable of breaking ice up to 6". She will serve as a great platform for an expedition yacht, dive charter operation, or commercial fishing platform.
Vessel Walkthrough
AVEDONIA has approximately 8,500 square feet of inside area and approximately 18,000 square feet of total area including all decks.
E deck or main deck
Upon entering from the port side there is the ward room (officers lounge). Forward of this is the stainless steel galley with GE cast iron grill, two convection ovens, Hobart commercial dishwasher, and a fire suppression system over the stove. Forward of the galley is the crew mess. Stbd forward is a head w/ shower and port is a companionway down to the crews quarters on D deck. Forward are port and stbd staterooms with ensuite head and showers. Forward is two staterooms port and starboard with berth over berth configuration. Forward through a watertight door is a two story compartment for food storage that includes walk in chill room, thaw room, and freezer room. Forward through another watertight bulkhead door is a two story paint locker.
D deck
D deck has three watertight compartments that encompass twelve (12) staterooms with sleeping accommodations for thirty (30).
C deck
C deck has three watertight compartments that contain water tanks, general storage, and non perishable storage. Forward is air conditioning and freezer compressors.
B deck
B deck contains the fuel tanks totaling 50,000 US gallons.
F deck
F deck is behind the pilothouse and a few steps down. There are electronics rooms and survey equipment areas. This deck can easily be converted to an incredible master suite or two VIP cabins.
G deck

Engine room
The main propulsion for AVEDONIA is two EMD 567CR engines with 800 shp each. The transmissions are Lutkin. There are two 8V71N Detroit Diesel 250 KW generators. The port generator has Zero (0) hours and the starboard generator has 200 hours. There is port and starboard upper and lower raw water intakes for bilge level suction underway and waterline suction at berth. The drystack exhaust was all renewed in 2002. Pilothouse
Under the deck of the pilothouse is a three thousand gallon flume tank. Ka Me Wa controls for variable pitch propellors.
