Introductory Comments

Beyond is one of the few pilothouse sailing yacht designs that really works under 50'. Dieter Empacher created a special offshore cruising yacht that has a true pilothouse which gives a proper inside steering station and a comfortable lounging/dining area with harbor views when seated. Dieter Empacher, for 12 years, was the chief designer of Little Harbor Yacht Deslgn. His Kanter designs, like his work for Ted Hood, offer good sailing performance with a heavier displacement hull that is comfortable and dry. Kanter is one of North America's most experienced metal boat builders.

There is a large aft cockpit with hydraulic winches and automated in mast furling. The wide side decks are teak with additional teak on the cockpit floor seats and bridge deck. Full length bulwarks, rugged windlass, and double heavy duty anchor rollers are valued features of this bluewater design.

Pilothouse

The pilothouse, with 360 degree panoramic view, houses the inside steering station with chart table and electronics console. There is a generous engine area located midships and accessed from pilothouse floor hatches. The curved staircase up to the bridge deck counter balances the port side wrap-around lounging area. Locker and storage space is what one could expect for a long distance passagemaker. A lazarette and forepeak provide excellent storage space. New upholstery and headliners were added in 2000.

Interior Accommodations

The pilothouse is accessed directly from the cockpit bridge deck and includes 3 drawers and lockers under table, 8' long under deck lockers and double door wet locker. A few steps down and aft of the pilothouse is a generous owner's suite with centerline queen berth and ensuite head with separate stall shower. The size of the private aft cabin is similar to what one would expect in a center cockpit design with the benefit of a much more comfortable aft cockpit.

Forward of the pilothouse is a U shaped offshore galley to port with settee opposite. This area benefits from the natural light of the forward pilothouse windows and good locker space and holding plate refrigeration system. Forward of the galley and lower dining/lounge settee is the forward guest cabin with head which is conveniently located for day head use. Storage in this cabin includes two double hanging lockers, full length upper and lower shelves.

Closing Remarks

Designer's Comments: The hull form with powerful aft section assures excellent reaching performance and the fine waterline entrance provides good upwind capability. The keel has been designed for maximum lift and hull has moderate wetted surface for better lighter air performance. In heavier air and at 15 degrees heel, the yacht will pick up added form stability which, with her longer waterline, will give a calculated hull speed of 8.4 knots. The high aspect rudder ensures good control under all conditions.

With two roller furling headsails and stoway main the helmsman can manage all sails from the cockpit. The easy sail handling makes BEYOND a pleasure to sail shorthanded on short trips or long distance ocean cruises.

Features

BEYOND is a world class ocean cruiser that has been extensively upgraded over the past few years.  Her current owner has spared no expense in preparing this remarkable boat.  With modern equipment and upgrades from an entire new rig to a completely reconfigured and upgraded galley, BEYOND is a tremendous vessel that is rarely made available.

BEYOND is a very strong, safe, comfortable design with an exceptional interior layout. Dieter Empacher, who for 12 years was Ted Hood's chief designer at Little Harbor, created a very special aft cockpit pilothouse design. On deck there is a spacious aft cockpit with wheel pedestal. The pilothouse has a fully equipped steering station and adjoining nav station. Opposite is a generous seating area with 360 degree visibility while seated.

Systems and equipment include hydraulic mainsail furling and winches, recently installed 8KW generator, cruising spinnaker, A/C, watermaker, electric windlass, and 110 volt and engine driven holding plate refrigeration.
