Vessel Overview ARION was engineered and built by C. Raymond Hunt Design and The Hinckley Company to be the largest cruising yacht that can be easily handled by a couple, without need of additional crew. Design requirements also included the very best in sound attenuation for quiet running at all rpm ranges, fast cruising speed, excellent sea keeping capabilities and a smooth ride in all conditions. Accommodation requirements included a full width owner stateroom with private cockpit, plus two comfortable additional staterooms and separate crew quarters; plus a salon befitting a yacht of her caliber, comprehensive navigation station and office desk in the pilothouse, and galley down but not separate from the salon to accentuate the sense of spaciousness. ARION's owner has cruised extensively and demanded a yacht that would not be held captive by 110 volt systems, which require running the generator constantly - consequently refrigeration and other systems can be run on 24 volts in a quiet ship mode for days - or weeks, at anchor. The remaining top priority was for a yacht that created an elegant profile on which all styling details contribute to the overall look of an able, classic, performance offshore cruising yacht.
ARION has exceeded all expectations on every count. She is fast, seakindly, exceptionally quiet under way, with gracious accommodations. Best of all, even in a fleet of 50 meter Feadships, she turns heads in every port of call.
Accommodations The most remarkable aspect of the main deck level aboard ARION, is the sense of spaciousness generated by the large ports all around, combined with the open arrangement going from the aft bulkhead of the Salon, fully forward through the Bridge Deck area, to the Galley which is open below. Indeed, the fore and aft visual line of sight in this area of the yacht is well over 30'. This, combined with the beautifully crafted, raised panel varnished mahogany joinerwork of the bulkheads and furniture, "V" groove white overheads with laminated mahogany athwartships beams, cabin soles in bright teak and holly or thick pile wool carpet - all conspire to enhance the sensation that this is indeed, a special yacht.
The MAIN SALON has a comfortable, open arrangement with an arc settee outboard to port and wing chairs fore and aft, facing two coffee tables. The dining table is outboard to starboard with a moderate "U" shape settee. The wing chairs can be used on the inboard side of the dining table, and the table expands with leaves, to accommodate dining for nine in comfort. The aft, port wall of the salon houses the entertainment system, stereo & TV, behind beautifully crafted, raised panel mahogany cabinet doors. Aft to starboard and up several steps, is the boat deck access. Immediately inboard are the steps down to the master stateroom.
The salon adjoins the BRIDGE DECK, forward and one step up, with watertight Freeman sliding doors port and starboard. The starboard side of the bridge is allocated to the helm, controls and navigation systems, with a full mahogany desk aft, separating the bridge from the salon. The desk/office is fully equipped with computer, communications, etc. The port bridge deck is open forward to the galley, with low cabinet storage between. Aft, there is a dry bar cabinet which separates the bridge from the salon.
The GALLEY benefits from being open to the salon in two ways, the sense of open space, along with exceptional natural light and ventilation. The galley has an abundance of cabinet and counter space and a full wall of custom built, insulated refrigeration and freezer boxes with 24/240 volt Grunert refrigeration and hold over plates. Additional galley features include: -Corian countertops w/molded sinks & custom fixtures -Force 10 propane stove w/oven & broiler -GE microwave -U Line icemaker -Opening ports -Custom tiles
The MASTER STATEROOM is aft of the salon, down several steps, with a centerline queen berth, built in end tables port and starboard, cabinet, drawer and shelf storage outboard to port. Forward in the stateroom is a full sit down writing or make-up desk with mirror and additional storage. The ENSUITE HEAD is beautifully crafted of mahogany with Italian marble sole, mahogany countertop w/custom sink & fixtures, and separate stall shower. Aft of the head to starboard is an additional cedar lined hanging locker, and the private companionway to the aft cockpit.
The GUEST STATEROOMS are forward and outboard of the Galley. The VIP STATEROOM is fully forward, with a centerline queen berth, plenty of stowage in bureau, hanging locker, drawers and cabinets and an ENSUITE HEAD, detailed much the same as that in the Master Stateroom. The SECOND GUEST STATEROOM is outboard to starboard of the Galley, with a remarkable amount of room, comfortably allowing twin lower berths with a night stand between, cabinet stowage outboard and in drawers below the berths, large hanging locker. The HEAD has separate entrances from the Stateroom or from the Galley so, although it has all features and styling of the other heads aboard, it also seconds as a Day Head.
CREW QUARTERS are located aft of the Galley and down several steps. The cabin includes over and under single berths, storage, TV and a separate HEAD with sink & shower. The Engine Room is accessed at the aft end of the Crew Quarters, through a watertight Freeman door. The separate utility locker is outboard of the crew head.
OTHER INTERIOR FEATURES: Marine Air chilled water reverse cycle Air Conditioning, 72,000 BTU w/ (6) control zones Sea Recovery SRC 1200 reverse osmosis watermaker General Electric stacked washer/dryer
On Deck Accommodations The AFT COCKPIT has a transom door to the swim platform, a cushioned settee forward, custom SS and Stamoid fixed Bimini, side deck access port & starboard, shower and electrical connections. At center of the Cockpit is a proper sailboat Lewmar winch that comes in handy when adjusting docklines. Below the cockpit, the lazarette offers a large storage area for fenders, docklines, power cords, etc.
The BOAT DECK houses the yacht tender and liferaft, while providing access between the side decks, Main Salon and Flybridge. At the forward end of the Boat Deck is a full, sailboat type mast and boom that have been engineered to raise the yacht tender into position with assistance of an electric winch. The mast is tabernacle mounted to allow easy lowering for bridge clearance, and houses the radar, the majority of the yacht's antennae, plus deck and anchor lights.
The FLYBRIDGE has been beautifully detailed for both running and navigating the yacht in all conditions, or for entertaining in port. The three forward facing helm seats give a commanding unrestricted view of the yacht and the horizon, with access to all instrumentation. Aft and to port is a large "L" shaped settee that faces a large dining table. The table can be folded open to serve the starboard side of the Bridge as well, seating upwards of eight people. The Flybridge has a custom designed hard top with lighting and EZ2CY, heavy gauge clear Acrylite Acrylic removable curtains.
Broker Comments Several similar C. Raymond Hunt Design yachts in this size range have been built over the years but ARION is the one on which they got everything right. The Hinckley Company is world famous for setting the standard of quality in yacht building, and in addition there was a remarkable confluence of talent that came together in the construction of this yacht. She was built at the time when Hinckley had completed a number of power yachts and one of their primary foci at the time was sound attenuation. Their input, along with that of Joe Smullen from J & A Enterprises helped to create a yacht that runs extremely quietly. The Hinckley Company had also taken an industry lead in composite technology in the early 1990's and their expertise in this regard was well invested in ARION. At the time, the company had just finished a number of larger yachts, so the engineering aboard ARION was developed with a big boat mentality - hence the hydraulic windlass, bow thruster, sophisticated electrical system and accessories. These factors combined with the legendary Hinckley fit, finish and attention to detail created a truly special yacht.
ARION has had exceptional care since new and to date, she has never had a refit. In fact, if her next owner gives her the care she has received since her original launch in 1996, the yacht will never need a refit. The primary focus of her maintenance schedule has always been preventative. Every system aboard has been serviced well in excess of the individual manufacturers recommendations. Engine and generator fluids have been changed every 100 hours - while the standard is every 200 hours. The engines presently have 2260 hours with a life expectancy before major rebuilding of 10-12,000 hours. Likewise the generator, with 2026 hours, has yet to serve a quarter of it's anticipated service life prior to rebuilding. The yacht was painted in 2003 on all exterior surfaces; topsides deck areas and superstructure. Brightwork has always been perfect, as are all other aspects of the yacht. ARION is, quite literally, better than the day she was launched.
From her perfectly balanced classic profile, to her remarkably roomy, comfortable and elegantly detailed interior, well-silenced machinery and running noise, to the overall fit, finish and level of maintenance, ARION is without question the best of her breed.
