Introduction IDLEWILD is "Long, Lean, Tough, & Efficient" and was custom built by Reyse Marine in Surrey, British Columbia. She was launched in May 22nd, 2004 at Richmond, B.C. and did her maiden voyage down to Ensenada, Mexico and back to Vancouver. She was then trucked inland and then launched May 23, 2005 in the Peace River in Alberta, and then motored North down the Peace, Slave, and Mackenzie rivers, through the Northwest Territories to the Beaufort Sea in the Arctic Ocean. She proceeded West to the Russian Islands in the Bering Straits and turned back East to be one of the few power boats to run the Northwest Passage from West to East. Upon reaching the open waters off of Greenland they then proceeded for the next 9 months to circum-navigate the world and return to British Columbia. 38,410 miles in 14 months !!!
Accommodations The boat sleeps four persons in 3 berths with an additional sea berth in the wheelhouse when under way. Below decks you have a galley to starboard with a convertible dinette opposite, and the enclosed head, with separate shower, forward of the dinette.
The interior has just been sanded and revarnished, along with the addition of new carpeting and new upholstery on all cushions (8/2007)
Boat is in drydock with new antifouling paint and the exterior having been completely polished (8/2007)
Hull The hull was designed by George Buehler, known for his cruising version of a Pacific salmon-troller, which was a narrow beamed voyager.. She was designed to travel long distances with the utmost efficiency and internal strength to handle ice conditions in the Northwest Passage. She has a full length keel that supports a large "barn-door" rudder. Forward she has a watertight, collision bulkhead forming the chain locker, followed by the below decks accommodations, the engine room, and then a large 15' long hold, aft of the engine room. Off her stern she has a swim platform the is integral to the hull with a stairway leading to it. She has antifouling on her bottom, but the boat's exterior was left natural. There are 8 opening portholes below decks, and the rubrails are the full length of the boat.
Galley The galley is simple and located to starboard in the main cabin. There is a double bowl S/S sink, a large counter top, and a Dickenson diesel fired stove/oven.
