Introduction Solveig is a Swedish Steel ANSO 42. She is rigged and equipped as an ocean going long distance cruiser. The accommodation is a pilot-house design with internal dual steering. Berths for six, plus sea-berth in main saloon.
The hull shape is very similar to the Halberg-Rasseys of her period, namely a long fin keel with a full length skeg and rudder. She is chine-built, but this is done so elegantly that the chines are almost invisible.
The rig is quite tall, with a fairly high aspect, fully battened mainsail and a large genoa: from about 18 knots of wind we change to a furling inner staysail. A powerful 80 HP diesel on a Bruntons Autoprop gives her a maximum 8 kts under power; normally this runs at about 1250 rpm giving a range of 800 / 900 miles.

Engel Fridge/Freezer 60 litre top opening chest (2008)
Thermo-electric cold-box
Plastimo 2 burner stove with grill on gimbal mount.
Mechanical Equipment The 80 hp Vetus-Deutz MD 4.29 is a turbo diesel, with very good emission characteristics. The engine is cooled by its lubricating oil, which passes to a seawater cooled heat exchanger. Maximum SHP 80 at 2600 rpm.
Hurth HSW 450 A2 Gearbox. Ratio 2.43/1
Hydraulic shift
Independent oil/seawater heat exchanger (This is an oversize gearbox for engines up to 300 shp.)
Bruntons Autoprop 19" diameter propeller, self pitching to give maximum water speed at the set engine rpm. This makes for very economical running: the season average consumption is less than 0.9 US gallon per hour, motoring and motor sailing
Aquadrive universal coupling: this is combined with an Aqualock shaft brake activated automatically by the gearbox when the engine is running. The brake prevents the prop turning when sailing fast, giving about 1 knot additional speed.
