If you've been searching for a true blue water boat that can carry you safely, and comfortably, anywhere you want to go, look no further than CALYPSO. This clipper-style ketch by legendary designer Robert Perry is a proven world passage-maker. Her tankage for both fuel and water is enormous, and her interior volume provides more than ample accommodations and storage capacity in a setting made elegant by abundant use of teak, courtesy of famed Taiwanese builder Ta Chiao. Continual quality upgrades have kept her in sail-away condition. A new 139HP American Diesel Corp. (Lehman) engine was installed in 1998 and three new custom stainless steel fuel tanks replaced her original cast iron versions in 2001. Her 13-gallon per hour watermaker is by Village Marine (new in 2002), her hydraulic autopilot is a Robertson (with a Simrad AP 27 remote for the helm and an AP 25 for the nav station, both new in 2005), and her binnacle-mounted chartplotter is a Garmin with a 10-inch display (also new in 2005). Six house T-105 batteries provide more than 800 AMP hours of capacity, three reverse-cycle air conditioners are rated at a combined 40,000 btu of output, and the Onan generator is a 7.5 kw with its own, dedicated 4D battery. A furling mainsail and mizzen simplify reefing, and a 360-degree cockpit enclosure keeps sun and spray under control. There's a deck-mounted Avon six-passenger liferaft, a 12-foot dinghy on beefy stainless steel davits, and a 15HP outboard. Additionally, her teak decks were professionally removed and reworked in new fiberglass non-skid and Awlgrip for ease of maintenance. Short of provisioning, CALYPSO is more than ready for her next offshore adventure.
Accommodations
Large salon windows, combined with superb teak joinery work, create a rich, yet bright main cabin that is ideal for extended cruising, as well as entertaining in port. Wide, flared companionway stairs curve seamlessly downward in "grand staircase" fashion from the cockpit, opening to spacious living quarters with enough room for a long L-shaped starboard settee and cocktail table, two lounge chairs with ottomans, an aft-facing nav station, and even a serving counter for pass-through to the salon from the adjacent galley. Ahead, and to port, is a pullout pullman-style guest stateroom for two, with its own head. Opposite, to starboard, is a second guest stateroom with over-under bunks for two. The current owners have modified this area to create a workroom space, complete with anchored vise where the second head would normally be. This could be converted back to its original usage, if so desired. There is a third cabin forward, for two more guests or crew, again with over-under bunks. Each cabin shares a stand-alone shower, currently dedicated to storage. Doors separating the cabins have been removed, and stored ashore, to facilitate ease of movement, but can be easily re-installed. Totally separated from the main salon and forward guest cabins is the aft master stateroom. Its large, queen-sized double is offset to starboard and comes with its own ensuite head, separate shower and sitdown vanity. Four opening bronze ports in master stateroom Fourteen additional opening bronze ports throughout the boat Six opening deck hatches Pioneer AM/FM/CD player with speakers Under bunk drawers Hanging lockers Thirteen-inch television in salon DVD player VHS player
Galley
Because the engine and generator are beneath the main salon floor, the large galley to port can be paired opposite an equally spacious booth-style dining area to starboard, with seating for six. At the disposal of the chef is a new gimballed three-burner Force 10 stove and infrared broiler, which was installed new in 2005, a built-in microwave with convection oven, double stainless steel sinks, and Grunert holding plate refrigeration, with a freezer compartment, that can operate off of the engine and 110 volt (via shore power or generator). There's also a 110-volt icemaker that can operate off the inverter, or shorepower. A deck-mounted propane locker holds two tanks, one dedicated to a rail-mounted Dickerson propane grill and the other to the galley stove and broiler.
