The Catalina 36 has a fairly traditional interior with a 2-cabin layout. Beginning forward is a large V-berth with shelves, hanging locker and drawer storage. Next aft to port is the head and shower compartment, with a door to the forward cabin as well as the salon. Opposite is the entertainment center as well as a bank of drawers. Aft of the entertainment center is a convertible settee that can be a straight bench settee, or can be a small dinette for two. Opposite is the L-shaped dinette with a table that stores vertically against the main bulkhead, keeping the salon open and uncluttered. Aft to port is the U-shaped galley, while opposite is the outboard facing chart table. Aft is the private aft cabin with a large athwartship queen berth, drawers and hanging locker. Numerous storage lockers and cabinets throughout, teak and holly sole, nonskid galley sole. A large companionway with (6)opening ports and (7)deck hatches afford very good ventilation. Galley
The U-shaped galley is quite functional with great counter space and storage lockers. Counter tops are Granitecoat, very similar to Corian. Forward are twin s/s sinks and large dry storage locker outboard, aft is the 2-burner s/s Hillerange LPG stove w/oven, followed by the refrigeration box and additional counter space. Hull and Deck
The Catalina 36 utilizes single piece hand-laid FRP hull construction. Vinylester resin is used in the intial laminations followed by general purpose and isophalic resins in subsequent layers. External lead keel wing keel, balanced rudder with s/s internal webbing and rudder post. Bronze shaft with intermediate strut and cutlass bearing, fixed 3-blade bronze propeller. The deck is one piece fiberglass with molded nonskid and is plywood cored except in areas of high load/high stress, where the deck is solid fiberglass and the hardware is thru-bolted and/or secured into an aluminum plate in the lamination schedule that is drilled and tapped. Recessed anchor locker with Lofrans electric windlass, single bow roller. Inboard chainplates make for a tight upwind sheeting angle as well as unencumbered movement fore and aft. A large T-shaped cockpit with Edson pedestal steeing. Engine gauges are mounted to the port side of the cockpit, Ritchie SP-5 binical mounted compass, separate throttle and shift controls, wheel brake, pedestal mounted cockpit table and drink caddy.
