At her introduction in 1982, the Carver 36 Aft Cabin was the biggest boat ever built by Carver. Immediately successful (due in part to her affordable price), she was built on a "dual mode" trawler style hull, meaning that it can run efficiently and very economical at slow 7-8 knot displacement speeds and still plane out when the throttles are applied. (Note that this same hull was later used in the production of the 36 Mariner.) The interior accomodations of the 36 Aft Cabin are quite roomy for a 36-footer and Carver offered a pair of two-stateroom floorplans to choose from. Plan A has sleeping accomodations for eight with a dinette that converts to a double berth, while Plan B sleeps six and features a raised lounge offering sleeping for five. A lower helm was standard in both layouts as was a tub/shower in the aft head. Outside, the aft deck is large enough got a few folding chairs, and the bridge is only three steps up with guest seating for four. The sidedecks are wide enough for easy bow access--a plus on any small cruiser. Standard 350HP gas engines will cruise the Carver 36 Aft Cabin around 16 knots and reach a top speed of approximately 26 knots.
