Overview DREAM CHASER is the ultimate all oceans, all weather, long range, secure passagemaker. She is built to massive proportions, and yes .. the displacement is 100 tons!
Hull Description "Dream Chaser" is hull #4 from the Cape Horn Trawler Corporation. The construction of the hull is steel (A36). She is a trawler style, with a bulbous bow, Vee bottom, hard chines and a semi canoe stern. A massive full box keel provides a very substantial backbone for the craft and solid protection in the event of grounding. The 3' diameter sch. 40 steel bulbous bow tube provides wave breaking efficiency, and an added degree of collision protection. Bilge keels provide resistance to rolling while under way, and give substantial support when the craft is sitting on the hard. The Thrustmaster drive and propeller are protected by a 3" thick steel plate extending from the keel line under the drive to the bottom rudder bearing.
This vessel also has unique stiffening of the forward hull plating near the waterline on the exterior of the hull and provides abrasion resistance as an "ice belt".
There are 4 watertight compartment doors below decks to isolate various sections of the hull. 1) Engine room, 2) Utility room, 3) Master stateroom, 4) amidships foyer, 5) forward VIP stateroom. There is a solid bulkhead between the VIP stateroom and the chain locker. Chain locker access is through a watertight deck hatch.
All windows and portlites are ½" tempered glass. The 5 wheelhouse windows are internally electrically heated for defrosting and deicing. There are storm panels for all side windows. (sturdy aluminum covers with small view ports).
The vessel is double bottomed with integral tanks filling most of the hull space below the accommodations. The fuel manifold, valves and pumping system provide a very flexible arrangement for fuel management, filtration, polishing, transfer to the day tank, and, after multi stage filtration, ultimate delivery to the engine, generators, or auxiliary get-home engine. Capacity is 5,000 gallons in 4 main tanks and 2-day tanks. All tanks are baffled to reduce free surface effect. The intertank filtration and transfer system can be either electric or manual, for supplying the day tanks or trimming the vessel. Fuel tanks have bottom drains to draw off water if needed.
Layout The Cape Horn 65 layout has an on deck salon and galley, and elevated pilothouse, while below, there are three staterooms plus a private office. The interior joinerwork is the highest quality Canadian maple, with tasteful inlaid dark filigree accent lines. Upholstery in the main salon is leather. There are full walk around decks with sliding door entry to either side of the pilothouse. The interior flooring, side decks and aft deck are "Marine Deck" by Marquipt. The Freeman Dutch door on the aft deck enters to the salon. The galley is forward of and open to the salon. The huge pilothouse is ahead of the galley and up two steps. The companionway down from the galley leads below to the office, guest cabin, guest head, and to the VIP suite forward. The master stateroom and en-suite head are aft and down 3 more steps beneath the salon. Staterooms are carpeted.

Propulsion There is a single full azimuth variable speed hydraulic drive manufactured by Thrustmaster. Main power is a Volvo TAMD 122A diesel rated at 380 HP continuous at 1800 RPM. The main output is connected to the Thrustmaster hydraulic pump with another clutch controlled hydraulic power takeoff drive for the bow thruster and windlass. The main engine is cooled with a closed loop glycol system on the sides of the box keel. The Thrustmaster hydraulic system is protected by an automatic overpressure relief valve. Exhaust from the main engine is dry.
There is a 57 HP Volvo diesel "Saildrive" featuring a self-feathering "Autoprop" this provides "Get Home" capability in the unlikely event of a main drive failure. This diesel also can operate a clutch controlled high volume bilge pump.
